5. Stop the Story

Anything’s possible as children and adults play together as creative partners.

Start:

  • Choose a children’s book. 

  • One person reads while the other/s listen. One person has the job of saying “stop the story” when they want to throughout the book. 

  • Start reading the story. 

Play

  • When “stop the story” is said, take turns each time coming up with what happens next. 

  • It could be realistic, or completely bonkers. 

Try

  • Acting out what happens next. 

Think

  • What surprised you?

  • What will you try next time? 

Know

  • Inspired by: Creative practitioners can embrace interruption to welcome in new ideas.

  • Main capability: Divergent thinking. 

  • Main skill: Idea generation.
